Castle Nachod

Nachod

Originally a Gothic Castle, later turned into a Renaissance Chateaux. The Chateaux belonged to many owners (important aristocratic families including a royal family) during its long history. Most of its mobiliar has got the origin from the Italian aristocrat Ottavio Piccolomini that owned the Chateaux from 1634. Visitors can see rich interior exhibition, gothic cellars, a tower with a dungeon, a castle ditch with two bears, terraces with panoramic views of the city and its surroundings, five castle courtyards with fountains, relax in the Piccolomini gardens, park or walk through the old army cemetery.

Fortress Dobrosov

Nachod

The best reconstructed fortress from the Second World War in the Czech Republic. It is a very popular stop by many people during summer. There is a special exposition devoted to the Czech Army of the First Czech Republic. The fortress is located in a beautiful hilly area suitable for further trips - either walking or cycling.

Jicin - the Capital of Fairy Tales

Jicin

Jicin is known as the Capital of Fairy Tales due to author of Czech popular figures of Rumcajs, Manka and Cipisek of which story was set into this lovely small town located in hilly and rocky countryside near the Bohemian Paradise. Visiting Jicin, you can enjoy a special atmosphere of a small square with typical arcades alongside and historical gates at the main entrances to the historical parts of the town. In the centre of Jicin you can find a Baroque Castle worthy visiting. Annually there is the Fairy-Tales Festival organized for the second week of September. The festival brings you a week full of magic world of fairy-tales with everyday program dedicated to kids. Great fun! Travel Plan


Hradec Kralove - a Battle Reconstruction, Air Shows

Hradec Kralove

Hradec Kralove is an important regional centre of Eastern Bohemia. The town is considered as a perfect sample of functional town architecture assembling all architectural styles from Gothic to Functionalism. Hradec Kralove hosts every year by a tradition a historical Battle Reconstruction and a big Air Show. The 138th anniversary of Hradec Kralove Battle was scheduled on 2 - 3 July 2004. It is a traditional event of historical army clubs performing a selected battle reconstruction. A regular European Veteran Airshow takes place on the last weekend of August. The organizer "Flying Circus" carefully prepares an attractive program coming back to the old traditions of flying circuses, so popular in 1920s. All of the air or played scenes are complemented by pyrotechnical effects and a ground staff in period costumes and uniforms. The period military and civil vehicles are taking part in these scenes as well. A performance of "Flying Circus" consists of 3 played and air scenes describing 100 years-old history of the world aviation. Super tip for a short trip! Travel Plan


Pardubice - a Renaissance Castle, Ginger Bread, Steeplechase

An old town known especially through a ginger bread, Pardubice steeplechase, a Renaissance castle and hundreds kilometres of cycling pathes. At the Pardubice castle you will find a unique exposition of the largest glass and plastic glass collection belonging to the most complete and valuable collections not only in the Czech Republic. If lucky, you can admire night singing of nightingales coming from the castle mounds in April. Also, you cannot miss a Museum of Ginger Bread in Raby u Pardubic no. 38 - a perfect place for families with kids! Travel Plan


Litomysl – a Unesco Sight, a Renaissance Castle, the International Open Air Opera Festival

Litomysl

A Unesco listed town was established in the 13th century on an important trading path linking Bohemia nad Moravia and soon became an important religious centre. The well-preserved large historical centre with a complex of restored town houses, a Renaissance Castle, churches and convent gardens attract many visitors. The most important cultural event of the year is annual International Open Air Opera Festival "Smetana´s Litomysl" that is held mainly within the castle facilities. Another unique attraction worthy to mention, is the fully functional small Baroque Castle Theatre of which kind are only 5 in the whole world! When in Litomysl, do not forget to visit Toulovec Stables which is a protected natural area. The cliffs are formed from cretaceous limestone of ocean origin formed over centuries into bizarre shapes.
